AMA supports more CAM education for doctors and medical students

The American Medical Association (AMA) has adopted a resolution that promotes education of medical doctors and medical students on the “benefits, risks, and efficacy” of CAM.

This action came in response to a resolution from the Student Section of the AMA, which urged more CAM education in both medical schools and through continuing medical education.

This resolution differs from earlier AMA resolutions regarding CAM in 1994, and 1997. It acknowledges potential “benefits” from CAM. Earlier AMA resolutions were at best neutral and more typically negative in tone.
