6 easy steps to prevent cancer
The World Cancer Research Fund and the American Institute for Cancer Research have published a tome (517 pages) titled, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity, and the Prevention of Cancer: A Global Perspective.
The goal is to reduce the global burden of cancer through healthier living.
Best of all, it can be accomplished in just 6 easy steps in addition to not smoking or chewing tobacco.
- Achieve and maintain a BMI (body mass index) in the normal range.
- Exercise 30 to 60 minutes a day.
- Eat no more than 18 oz. of red meat per week, with little processed meat.
- Limit alcoholic drinks to one a day for women and two a day for men.
- Consume less than 6 grams of sodium daily.
- Do not use dietary supplements to prevent cancer.
The recommendations are based on 7,000 studies from a worldwide pool of 500,000 written since records began in the 1960s. It also includes special recommendations for nursing mothers and cancer survivors
