The discovery of specific cannabinoid receptors in the central nervous system has lead to much research to determine the main effects of these compounds.

This Cochrane review reports on the clinical effectiveness of cannabinoids in the treatment of dementia.

First, the details.

  • Only 1 study met the inclusion criteria.

And, the results.

  • The data were poorly presented and could not be validated.

The bottom line?
There’s no evidence that cannabinoids are effective in the improvement of disturbed behavior in dementia or in the treatment of other symptoms of dementia.
