Ignorance of omega-3 among Australians

Since starting this blog in 2006 there have been more than 150 posts about omega-3 fatty acids.

Believe it or not, most pregnant women in Australia still have no clue.

First, the details.

  • 190 pregnant women completed a 27-item demographic and food safety/behavior questionnaire.

And, the results.

  • Three-quarters of the women hadn’t received information about omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Half the women had limited knowledge of issues relating to omega-3 fatty acids.
  • Most obtained their knowledge from books and magazines.
  • Women generally had low concern about omega-3 fatty acids.
  • They had moderate concern about mercury.

The bottom line?
It’s a teach opportunity.

Studies of omega-3 and pregnancy published in the last 2 years and covered here… are here.
