Some of the weight loss products listed below claim to be “natural” or to contain only “herbal” ingredients.

The FDA found they actually contain potentially harmful ingredients not listed on the product labels or in promotional advertisements.

Some of these products include sibutramine (Meridia; a prescription weight loss product), rimonabant (Acomplia; used for weight loss but not approved for sale in the US), phenytoin (Dilantin; an anti-seizure medicine), and phenolphthalein (a solution used in chemical experiments and a suspected cancer causing agent).

Some of the amounts of active pharmaceutical ingredients exceed the FDA-recommended levels, putting consumers’ health at risk.
