California bans trans fats
It’s the first state to outlaw a vegetable oil.
The governator has made it official. It will be hasta la vista to the use of oils, margarine, and shortening containing trans fats by all restaurants and other food-serving businesses by 2009.
Exemptions include foods not made on-site that are served in their original packaging, and meat and dairy products.
However, if you’ve ever dined in a California restaurant, you know that the wall placards clearly state the authorities are not responsible for the safety of anything you eat.
