ConsumerLab tests St. John’s wort

This is depressing. The number one problem facing herbal medicines today is the inability (or something) on the part of manufacturers to ensure quality control in the manufacturing of their products.

Here’s the latest on St. John’s wort.

ConsumerLab tested 11 products.

  • 2 contained less St. John’s wort compounds than claimed.
  • 2 were contaminated with cadmium and/or lead.
  • 2 lacked proper label information.

If you are thinking about taking St. John’s wort, or if you are not satisfied with response you’re getting, consider reading their report. It will cost you, but what’s the cost of taking subpotent medicine — or lead?
