NYC is first to ban trans fats
According to WABC radio, New York City just passed the ban on using trans fats for cooking in NYC eateries.
It is the first city in the US to do so.
There’s a six-month grace period for replacing trans fat-containing cooking oils, shortening, and margarine for frying and for spreads. An 18-month grace period is allowed for adoption of alternatives in all other products, like pancake mixes and chicken nuggets, and for oils and shortening used for frying yeast dough.
