Louisville councilman proposes to ban trans fats

Councilman Dan Johnson says he plans to file an ordinance to ban using trans fatty acids in 2,600 Louisville Kentucky eateries.

Food chains that have recently decided to ban trans fatty acids from their foods on their own include the following.

  • Arby’s
  • KFC
  • Taco Bell

Lots of others are listed on other entires on this blog.

Also considering a ban are New York City and Chicago.

NYC council members will vote on their proposal next week. The betting is it will probably pass, despite lobbying by McDonalds, Burger King, and others. McDonalds claims it would take them until 2008 to get the fat out. That’s one year longer than the NYC law permits.

No Mcdonald fries for a year? I find that hard to believe.
